Who We Are

Lynn WestphalLynn Westphal, MD
Director of Women's Health at Stanford University

Dr. Westphal is Associate Professor in the Stanford University School of Medicine and Director of the Stanford Fertility and Reproductive Medicine Center.

She is a graduate of the Stanford University School of Medicine and completed postgraduate medical training at UCLA, Stanford and UCSF.

Dr. Westphal is Director of the Stanford University Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility Fellowship Program, as well as Director of the Ovum Donation and Gestational Carrier Programs. In early 1999, Dr. Westphal started one of the first oocyte cryopreservation program, and she has been a leader in facilitating fertility preservation for cancer survivors.

Her reputation as a renowned clinician and educator, combined with her integrated, multi-discipline perspective, make Dr. Westphal a sought after collaborator and speaker.


Marcia Stefanick, PhD

Dr. Stefanick, Stanford University School of Medicine Professor of Medicine, and of, Obstetrics & Gynecology, is one of the country’s foremost authorities on Women’s Health and sex differences physiology.

She received her doctorate in physiology from Stanford University, following her undergraduate education at the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Stefanick chaired the executive committee and acted as Stanford principal investigator of the Women’s Health Initiative, the largest study of women’s health ever done in the United States

In addition to her duties as Associate Director of Women’s Health at Stanford, she co-chairs the Women’s Heart Health at Stanford program; co-leads the Cancer Prevention and Control research effort in the Stanford Cancer Center; co-directs the Women’s Health Scholarly Concentration, for Stanford medical students; and teaches women’s health and sex differences courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.


Jim BattersonJim Batterson
Executive Director, Women’s Health at Stanford

Mr. Batterson is the Executive Director, Women’s Health at Stanford, providing strategic, management, fundraising and marketing direction to this School of Medicine multidisciplinary program.

He oversees the Women’s Health Clinical Research group and the program’s various medical and community education initiatives.

Jim is a member of Stanford’s Cardiovascular Institute; Stanford’s Cancer Institute; and a member of the Stanford Cancer Care Committee board. Along with Dr. Stefanick, Mr. Batterson did early strategic and marketing work that resulted in the launch of the Women’s Heart Health at Stanford program.

Mr. Batterson started Women’s Health Magazine, a multidisciplinary look at various women’s health research, education and clinical activities occurring at the Stanford University Medical Center, in winter 2008, and continues to guide this publishing product.

Formerly a senior business executive, Jim has previously been a Vice President/Officer of a NASDAQ listed company; President of an international startup firm (dermatology); been on editorial, advisory and board of director positions for advertising and marketing publications and associations; and has consulted to a wide range of businesses and institutions, including Four Seasons Hotel; University of Michigan Medical System; La Costa Resort & Spa; and Stanford Hospital and Clinics.

Mr. Batterson is a graduate of the University of Michigan.
