Women & Sex Differences in Medicine (WSDM)

Advocacy

In addition to striving to provide coordinated health care for women, Women’s Health @ Stanford also wants to serve as an advocate for women-focused health care. We want to continue to help women to spread the word for increased resources for health care and health research that focuses on women’s unique needs. State and local governments and funding agencies need to hear that research into women’s health issues is a high priority.. And, of course, we want to provide women with the information they need to be active participants in their health care.

WH@S seeks to:

Women need to know the benefits they, and future generations, stand to gain from participating in clinical research trials.  Most of today’s health information has come from studies on men, so key differences in the way our bodies work and fight disease must continue to be explored. WH@S looks to educate women as to the benefits of participating in research, and to increase their recruitment. Key members of the WH@S leadership are active in the Society for Women's Health Research and its Coalition, working to lobby policymakers as to the importance of women’s health research funding.
